This guy fixes stuff that goes, ahem, pear-shaped!

As a Registered Dietitian, I have a professional relationship with pears. But as someone who loves great food, I also have a personal relationship with pears! So there is no better way to spend my time than blogging about this lovely fruit. I will blog about pears from farm to table; healthy living, cooking, and recipes; the therapeutic benefits of pears and a wholesome diet; and how pears can fit into your lifestyle. I have a background in clinical and community nutrition, and teaching others how to lead healthy, fulfilling lives is my goal and passion – so send me your questions. My hope is that everyone who visits this site will find something that lingers long after the browser closes, and I expect that will be a deeper love of pears!

I’m a personal chef and recipe writer here as well as at tummyrumblr.com. I grew up in Oregon where I ran, hiked, looked out over great distances, and fell in love with all of the beautiful produce this great state has to offer. I’ve worked as a caterer, a farmer, a pizza tosser, a line cook, a dishwasher, and a cooking school instructor. I’m thrilled to be writing for USA Pears because it gives me the opportunity to learn much more about all of the different and distinct pear varieties that are grown here in my favorite part of the world.

I work with USA Pear marketing offices that work in 38 countries all over the world: from Latin America to the Middle East, from Europe to Southeast Asia and places in between, our representatives serve markets on every continent except Antarctica. I love the opportunity to practice my Spanish and pick up new phrases in other languages (even if it’s just the basics of “hello,” “goodbye,” “thank you” and of course “pear”: pera, birne, гру́ша [GROO-sha], and more to come). I’ll be sharing highlights of the exciting and interesting activities that are taking place to promote USA Pears around the world. My favorite pear variety is Comice. Yum!
